If you’ve recently been sorting through your wardrobe, or if it’s something you’ve been meaning to get around to doing, then this ‘Wardrobe SOS’ masterclass has come at the perfect time. Not only will you learn a number of essential mending skills that could help you rescue your well-loved garments, but you’ll also learn a little more about the benefits of the slow fashion movement and how to properly care for your clothing and keep them looking fresh!
You’ll be taught by embroidery specialist and TFL founder Melanie Kyles, who has long been invested in sustainable fashion. The session will be taught via Zoom so you still have the benefit of live tuition and feedback that you would typically receive in The Fashion Lab, as well as having the opportunity to meet and connect with others who you’ll be learning alongside.
What you’ll learn:
The impact of slow fashion vs fast fashion
How to care for your clothes/shoes to avoid damage
How to mend split seams
How to fix a tear
How to sew on buttons
How to fix a torn buttonhole
Recommended supplies:
Scrap fabric
Buttons
Sewing needle
Sewing thread
Sewing pins
Sharp scissors
Fabric pencil, chalk or marker
Iron/ironing board
Access to a web monitor/mic (mobile, tablet or laptops are all ideal) and decent internet connection
Once you have purchased your ticket, you will receive an email with a custom URL link to the event, which you can then add to your calendar. Emails will be sent out an hour before the event is due to start, which will include your Zoom meeting number and password. Be sure to log in 5 minutes before the event is due to start, as this can help avoid technical difficulties that may delay your sign in. Tickets are one person per ticket.
You will have the option to use video and audio to participate, which is encouraged but not essential…it’s great to see everyone’s faces and it can also help to make sure you’re on the right track when your mending is visible on-screen!
