Melanie Kyles (born 1990, Gateshead) takes what are usually regarded as gender-specific materials, such as fabrics and crystal to subvert notions of economy and practicality traditionally associated with the ‘decorative’ arts. Exhibitions include Art Helix (Brooklyn, New York), The Manchester Contemporary and Vane gallery.

Curating

Passionate about feminism, heritage, craftsmanship and sustainability, Melanie has creatively pulled together a variety of events and exhibitions that highlight these values! Examples include coordinating interactive studio events at Ampersand Inventions for Museums at Night, successful and diverse exhibitions at Vane Gallery marking International Women’s Day, and a multiple-day program involving a number of local sustainable fashion brands and educators for Fashion Revolution Week.

Personal commissions are truly something special and can be as small or as extravagant as you desire. These can be tailored for businesses, organisations, charities, and individuals, and can include bridal, heirloom, graduation, or other special occasions. Interested? If you’re then happy to go ahead, you’ll be required to pay a 50% deposit prior to sampling, and you will be sent images at key points in the sampling and making stages, with room for adjustment. Once the work is complete and the invoice is paid up, your gorgeous new item will be delivered to you specially!
